Biography

Sierra Marie Jespersen (b. 2001) is a Northern-California based dance artist and choreographer with an AA degree in Dance from Modesto Junior College and a B.A. in Dance from California State University, Sacramento.  She started her dancing career in sixth grade by joining her middle school colorguard team in 2012. After continuing colorguard well into her sophomore year she transitioned her focus to dance and joined the Dance Production Company at Fred C. Beyer High School.

Along with obtaining her AA degree in Dance at Modesto Junior College, she was a member of the Perceptions Dance Company during the 2022-2023 season and represented Modesto Junior College at American College Dance Association (ACDA) hosted by Arizona State in 2023.

During her time at Sacramento State, she studied contemporary, modern, jazz, ballet, tap, Afro-Caribbean, improvisation, and composition. Sierra represented California State University, Sacramento in Brianna James’s piece titled, “In the Psalm of Her Hand,” at the American College Dance Association (ACDA) hosted by Modesto Junior College in 2024. Sierra has studied under notable figures in the dance world such as Kim T. Davis, Philip Flickinger, Lorelei Bayne, Megan Brunsvold-Mercedes, Nicole Manker, Nhan Ho, Alexandra Sheppard, Liz Hallack, and Rebbecca Meyers. Sierra is a modern/contemporary dancer who is most notable for her creativity and musicality that shines bright in her beautifully, unique choreography. Her intent in several of her pieces is to address and highlight sensitive topics such as substance abuse and domestic violence with hopes to bring a larger awareness to these misunderstood or often overlooked topics.
